NEW YORK, NY — February 6, 2024 — The Inaugural Guitar Masters Festival, presented by impresario Charles Carlini, is thrilled to announce the inclusion of six exceptional guitarists in its impressive lineup. Steve Cardenas, Joel Harrison, Brad Shepik, Max Light, Pete McCann, and Grant Gordy are set to open the festival on April 26th, captivating audiences at premier venues across New York City from April 26-29.

Organized by Charles Carlini Presents, a 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit concert promoter dedicated to curating exceptional live experiences, this unique festival promises a celebration of guitar mastery like never before. Festival founder Charles Carlini expresses his enthusiasm, stating,

The opening night gala, scheduled for April 26th at the renowned piano atelier Klavierhaus (790 11th Avenue, corner of 54th Street), will feature a mesmerizing evening of musical chairs, showcasing dynamic pairings among the featured guitarists. Supported by bassist Jerome Harris and drummer Allison Miller, the opening night’s festivities will be curated by acclaimed guitarist Joel Harrison of the Alternative Guitar Summit, who will also perform in this eclectic showcase.

Meet the Guitar Masters:

  • Steve Cardenas: Renowned for his role in ensembles such as the Paul Motian Electric Bebop Band and Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, Steve Cardenas is currently collaborating with the Ben Allison Band and others. A global performer and educator at The New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music, Cardenas co-authored the Thelonious Monk Fakebook, showcasing his dedication to preserving jazz legacies.
  • Joel Harrison: A Guggenheim Fellow and acclaimed guitarist, composer, and educator, Harrison has reshaped jazz with a fearless exploration of musical boundaries. As a curator for the Guitar Masters Festival’s opening night gala, he brings his visionary perspective to the event. Founder of the Alternative Guitar Summit, Harrison seamlessly connects various American traditions, from jazz to classical, rock, and country.
  • Brad Shepik: A guitarist, composer, and educator with nine albums as a leader, Shepik is a prominent figure at major festivals and clubs worldwide. Leading the Brad Shepik Organ Trio and Quartet, he consistently pushes musical boundaries and has worked with jazz luminaries such as Paul Motian, Dave Douglas, and Carla Bley.
  • Max Light: A Brooklyn-based guitarist, Max clinched 2nd place in the esteemed 2019 Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Guitar Competition. With versatility as a hallmark, Max has showcased his talent through performances and recordings alongside acclaimed artists in diverse musical contexts.
  • Pete McCann: Hailing from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, jazz guitarist Pete McCann has been a prominent figure in the New York City jazz scene for over three decades. Recently releasing his seventh album as a leader, “Without Question,” McCann’s extensive career includes collaborations with notable artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman, and Maria Schneider Orchestra.
  • Grant Gordy: An accomplished guitarist, Grant embarked on his musical journey as part of bluegrass mandolinist David Grisman’s groundbreaking bluegrass/jazz quintet. His latest quartet recording, Peripheral Visions, showcases Gordy’s expansive musicality honed through years in the contemporary string band scene, reflecting his broad musical perspective and intuitive understanding of diverse influences.
